paper cranes and cupcakes . . .

 

It was so much fun showing the 4th graders in Mrs. Crow's class how to fold paper cranes last week.  I am even more excited because they are trying to fold 1000 paper cranes as a class.  I thought they needed a little something special, so I made them some cupcakes . . . with paper cranes of course.

This picture does not even come close to showing how beautiful these cupcakes were.  A parent brought them into our office . . . plus they were delicious.  I wish I had taken time to take some better pictures of them - but wanted to share anyway.

Maple Bacon Cupcakes

I tried one of these a few weeks ago at a bakery . . . I got curious about the recipe and found one online.

They turned out pretty good - although it was getting late and I was in a hurry.  I should have chilled the frosting a little before putting it on the cakes.

But over all they were very tasty!  I will definitely make them again.  I am anxious to have someone try them to see what they think.  I picked up some cupcake papers for Abbie's baby shower yesterday.  I was amazed at the huge selection they had.  It made me want to make cupcakes - just to use all the cute paper holders . . . monkeys, hearts, flowers, princess crowns . . . way too much fun!  Now I have to look for some more tasty recipes . . . mmmmm!

Weekend stuff

We found this great little bakery on Friday. 

We weren't looking for a bakery - but it was next door to the place we were going.  Too cute not to check out.  Not a full bakery I guess - mainly cupcakes.

They had a great selection of cupcakes . . . it was hard to decide what to get.

We went with the French Toast and Bacon.  Delicious!  Now I want to go back and try some others . . . I am thinking I will try the Salted Caramel one next time.

 We spent the weekend doing things around the house.  I had this old cabinet that I painted, stained, and gave it a new look.

I have done this to a few pieces of old furniture that I have found . . . just painted it with flat black paint.  Sand the edges to expose some wood - then go over with stain.  Easy, inexpensive, and I love how they look.

Richard went to work with a chainsaw and turned the trunk of a tree that we had cut down into a couple of benches for the back yard.

 We got so much done in the yard.  We weeded flower beds and brought in quite a bit of dirt.  I think we were both exhausted by the time we finished up on Sunday.
