Easter Chicks

Easter is not far off . . . yet my decorations are still put away.  Sometimes life gets in the way.  I did pull this vintage planter out today.  I think I got it one Easter when I was young - filled with candy.  The flowers that are in it now have been in it for years.  I should probably replace them . . . but I like the vintage look that they have and they remind me of my mom.  I don't get all that excited about decorating for Easter . . . but always love to get this out.  The way things are going - this may be it.

Cat and a Hat . . . .

Stella just being Stella . . .
Mom knows that I like vintage boxes.  I didn't even know that she had this old hat and hat box that belonged to my grandma.  Mom's smile was great when she saw how excited I was about it.

Not sure what I will ever do with this hat . . . but it makes the old hat box even better.  I found a great place for it up on a shelf.  I am having a relaxing Sunday . . . back to work tomorrow.  I actually am looking forward to that too.

lace and inspiration . . .

Another stop at an antique store before my hair appointment . . . my hairdresser moving to this shop is either a blessing or a curse.  I love the antique stores so close, but I end up spending more money than just on my hair . . . no worries.  :)
This time what I found actually didn't cost all that much - some wonderful vintage lace to use on my dolls . . .
. . . and this wonderful little rhinestone dragonfly pin.
I have another special order for a Disney doll.  The lady that I am making it for brought me some items that I can possibly use for her doll.  I have a picture in my head what I want this doll to look like - with these items being the inspiration.
It is the last week of school - so work is CRAZY busy . . . I am having a little trouble finding time to sew or do much of anything other than work.  I hate that . . . but with the last week of school comes summer vacation and finally some extra time to do the things I like to do.

This and That

I have a good friend that had a baby last week.  Baby Aleena was born at 25 weeks . . . and is doing great.  The nurses describe her as strong and feisty . . . prayers for Aleena Marie.  I keep looking at the size of her little footprints in awe.  I am hoping to get to go see her tomorrow.
Richard and I went to dinner last night and happened upon a new little vintage shop next to the restaurant we went to.  What a great little place - definitely going back when I have more time.  I found this little heart charm that I thought I could use on a Shabby Charlotte doll.
This little wood ornament is only about an inch tall - also will probably use for one of my dolls.
For some reason these vintage appetizer skewers had to come home with me too. . . . I loved the colors and also think I can use them with my dolls.  I think the lady wondered why I would want them . . . sold them to me for next to nothing.
I am picturing a very festive, summery Shabby Charlotte . . .
I guess this was the top spike on an iron fence.  It is quite heavy.  I am not sure exactly how I will use this . . . but loved the worn rusty look and the combination of rust and the pink on it.
I did get around to cutting down another pair of bandannas that I had to make some smaller pants for Charlotte.  I am anxious to see how they fit and how they look on her.
Happy Saturday!

vintage suitcases . . .

I found these great old suitcases at an antique store last week . . . very reasonable and in pretty good shape.  I am using them to store some of my fabric.  There is a story about how I got them home.
My hairdresser moved to a new shop which is near some antique stores.  I was early getting to my appointment so decided to go into one of the shops that I like - and I found a couple of small items and then these suitcases.  No big thing - right? . . . except that I had planned on walking home after I had my hair done since it was such a nice day.  I debated for a second about coming back to get the suitcases later . . . but they were so reasonable - I didn't want someone else to get them before I got back.  So I get my hair done and start walking home.  My husband even called me to see if I had changed my mind about a ride . . . but I really wanted to walk.  I happened to be wearing a long pink hippy type skirt on this day.  So there I was - walking down the street in my long skirt with a suitcase tucked under my arm (luckily the smaller one fit inside the larger one - so I wasn't carrying them both by the handle - that would have looked even sillier).  It was about a two mile walk home - and it was about 5:00 so there was plenty of traffic.  I actually had an older lady stop and ask if I was ok and if I needed a ride - (I guess I must have looked like I was running away from home with my old suitcase)  My family just laughed . . . they are pretty sure that my picture is going to show up somewhere online . . . oh well - the suitcases are great and it was a beautiful day to walk home.
