good things today . . .

Richard made this shelf to hold the kid's are work for me and we got it hung up today.
There are some definite perks to this working at home.  I have been busy with work all day, but
it is nice to be able to get some things done at home also.
These painting are by Charlotte, Lily and Avery and were done a few months ago.
I am excited to finally have them displayed.
I liked this idea better than hanging them . . . so I can change them whenever they create
something new . . . and also not having to put a lot of nail holes in my wall.

GOOD THINGS TODAY . . .
Art work by my grandchildren
Talking to my brother
Breakfast Burritos
Working from home . . . and getting a lot done.
Sunshine and flowers
Working on some dolls
Hearing from old friends.

photo challenge 1/17/15 . . . unusual

Please excuse all the photos, but I felt like I had to post more than one photo just to give you some idea about the detail of this unusual fence/gate.  I have taken pictures of it before, yet every time I drive by these gates I have to stop.  There are two fences and gates probably about a half mile apart.
We noticed some items that were not rusted . . . so I am assuming that even though it has been in place for years it is still being added onto.  This would have also been a wonderful post for "rust".
There is so much detail . . . these photos don't really begin to show how unique it is.
It was a beautiful day for a ride in the country.

Dia de los Muertos

I'm not sure when I became fascinated with this custom.  I'm sure my fascination is tied into how much I enjoy Halloween.  But I have enjoyed Halloween for years . . . for as long as I can remember really.  My interest in Dia de los Muertos has come about more recent.  I love the colors, flower and other decorations, and the whole idea of why people create altars to honor their loved ones.  Last week Richard and I went to see a local Day of the Dead art exhibit.  It was small . . . but we really enjoyed it.  Well, I really enjoyed it . . . I don't think Richard necessarily would have gone without me, but he seemed to enjoy it because I did.  We were lucky enough to have the director walk through part of the exhibit with us and he explained who some of the altars were made for and gave us some more information on some of the artists.

Murals by Taylor . . .

I am proud to say that his young man is my nephew.  Just thought it would be fun to share this photo of him.  I am waiting to get a copy of this entire article . . . to find out more about his murals.  I have only seen photos of his murals and other work he has done . . . . from what I have seen he is a very talented young man.  Plus I just love the photo of him!
I did find a little more info on this mural project here and here.

books . . . "Turning Pages"

We went to see the "Turning Pages" - Intersections of Books & Technology - exhibit at Fresno State yesterday.  It wasn't a very big exhibit, but interesting and fun.
"Turning Pages" looks into some of the ways in which technology has transformed books and book making.  There were examples from special collections and art from five different artists.  The exhibit explored the intersections between text, image, and form.  I have always loved books . . . not only for what they offer between their covers . . . but also as art.  Richard thought I would enjoy this display - and he was right.
