Random Wednesday . . .

Whenever I get a large colorful envelope at work . . . I make a paper crane out of it. 

They always look so pretty once they are folded.  I love the colors on this one. 

We found "Ugly Doll" drawstring bags.  Lily and Charlotte had to have one . . . (so did I) - this face reminded me of my doll faces so I thought it would be perfect to carry my sewing stuff when I take it with me.

Charlotte and her sign language cards. Usually the routine is that she picks up a card and Luke will do that sign with her . . . she picks up another card - he does the sign . . . and so on.  Lately she just wants to spread the cards all over the place.  It is hard to get her to sit still these days to take a good picture . . . always busy.

 . . . and I think I may be married to Papa Smurf.  (a slightly less gray Papa Smurf)  He goes along with me taking these pictures . . . maybe just to make me laugh.  I can't wait to show this picture to Lily.

cherry bandanna pants

I have been so busy with work that I haven't spent much time doing the fun stuff.  Charlotte has just about outgrown her bandanna pants - so I made her new pair today . . . cute little cherry bandanna pants. 

Refrigerator Bling!

Our librarian added some bling to her small refrigerator that she keeps in the library.  I thought it looked so much fun that I had to share it . . . What a great idea and so simple to do.  I have to laugh though, because even though we have made huge progress cleaning up our campus and our rooms . . . the library still has a ways to go and is still somewhat of a mess, but the fridge is looking cute . . . bling is a top priority!

Petty Officer Smith . . . LOL

When something makes me laugh, I have to share it . . . (even if it embarrasses my husband.)  I looked up while getting ready for work this morning and this is what I saw.  Evidently Richard's old Navy dixie cup hats are in his sock drawer . . . I'm still laughing.  Let's see . . . 32 years ago this hat had a completely different affect on me, but I know after 32 years of marriage how important the laughter is.  Good morning Petty Office Smith.  LOL . . . and still laughing!

General Session

Every year our school district holds their General Session.  They bring all the employees together right before school starts . . . music, marching bands, cheerleaders, pompoms, cow bells, glow tubes . . . motivational speakers, funny skits, and a reminder why we do what we do each and every day . . . and that it takes all of us to do it.  You cannot help but leave excited about the kids showing up next week.  Our theme this year . . .

STAND TOGETHER!  I love the start of school . . . looking forward to a great year.

It's a Sign . . .

Ready or Not

The school where I work has undergone some major modernization and construction this summer.  It actually started before school was out last Spring.  I started back to work last week . . . our teachers report back this week . . . and school starts in five days.  Some of the student bathrooms are still tore up, our cafeteria is not complete, and the water was off most of the summer, so the plants and grass have suffered.

The good news is that the insides of the classrooms are pretty much finished and teachers are able to start moving everything back in.  From a distance it looks so much better, but up close - we still have a ways to go.

Each day it looks a little better.  You can't walk anywhere without seeing people working to get it all put back together before Monday . . . and there is not doubt in my mind it will be.  That's the way we do things.

It already looks better than it did this morning.  I love this time of year . . . and I love the first day of school.  The kids will be here Monday morning ready or not . . . 

so we have no other choice than to be ready.

I am so busy at work . . . and I have some pictures of what we are dealing with at work - getting ready for the kids to start back to school after some major construction/modernization.  I will post some of those later today.  I just needed to put a little silliness on here today - just because.

Paper Cranes . . .

It has been sort of a quiet weekend.  We played tennis, went to lunch, put out a few cranes.  Peace, Love, Cranes

I have mentioned that my crane project is taking longer than I had anticipated, but I am really enjoying it.  Especially now that I am giving some of them to people other than just dropping them to be found.  I haven't had much feed back lately, but I love the response I have gotten from people I give them to.  655 more cranes to go . . . and I need to fold some more - on my to do list for today.

Yes . . . even more stuff

Some of my grandma's old sheet music.  I used to love to sit next to her on the piano bench when she played.  I think I have taken for granted what a talented woman my grandma was. 

I remember her playing these two the most. 

I really need to look into getting a piano.  I like to play and would probably play all the time if I had a piano in the house. 

Some more vintage embroidery patterns.  I like embroidered dish towels . . . I have a couple that my grandma made and a set the Richard's grandma made.  It used to be something everyone seemed to have, but not something people spend time on now - unless they like that kind of thing.   I may have to make a set - just because.  I have these bird transfers and I think I also have some Raggedy Ann transfers somewhere.  There I go again . . . more projects I want to start . . . and still the same number of hours in a day.  :)

There are quite a few separate transfers as well . . . odds and end stuff that mom must have used on different things. 

I'm not sure why she had this set of astrology signs.  Maybe she picked them up at a yard sale or something . . . sort of cute.

I had to laugh when Mom pulled this out.  I am not sure why she kept this pattern.  She made me this when I was in high school.  The jumpsuit was a light turquoise and the jacket was a very pretty flowered print . . . it seems like it was sort of a Japanese looking print.  Flashback to the 70's.  LOL!
