junk journals . . .

I decided to take some of the paper "stuff" I keep and make some simple Junk Journals.
What do I keep . . . old calendar pages, my grandkids artwork, bags, cards, envelopes, doodles, bits and an pieces of this and that . . . JUNK!
Using washi tape and duct tape I just make a simple journal that I can write in and add to later.

random . . .

What a wonderful morning!
It is warm and sunny and smells like newly cut grass.
I have no place to be and that feels great!

  cats . . . big rabbits . . . paint and doodles . . . words on my walk . . .

. . . and I think to myself
what a wonderful world.

journal prompts . . .

I started using these wonderful little scraps that I cut out with quotes, sayings, and ideas on them for prompts in my journal.  It's a fun way to pick something to write about.  Sometimes I find one that seems to fit my mood . . . other times I glue them in a few pages apart . . . and when I get to that page that is what I use to write about that day.  I usually try to keep them positive . . . but I also can't resist something like the one with the picture of Wednesday Addams.  :)
Happy Friday!
Happy Weekend!

birthday card journal . . .

A card from my Aunt Hess usually includes a rooster stamp . . . I love these colors!

Every year I take my birthday cards and turn them into a journal.  This year I included some Valentine cards as well.  I used washi tape and simply taped the cards together.  It isn't the sturdiest thing, but makes a cute journal and this way I get to enjoy the cards again.
I also received this great journal with wonderful family photos from Brent, Ashley, and the boys.  Ashley ordered it through Shutterfly.
I LOVE IT!  I can't wait to fill up the pages!

faith . . .

 Faith isn't a feeling.  It's a choice to
trust GOD even when the road ahead seems uncertain.
When I chose FAITH as my word for the year . . .
I didn't realize how important it was going to be.

Bloom!

Don't wait for someone to bring you flowers.
Plant your own garden and decorate your soul.

I've been wondering why I only have one African Violet in my house.
 I need to change that.
I also need a cup of coffee, but I am going to win that battle . . . although I may just sleep through the whole battle.
Happy Wednesday!

be thankful . . .

I am looking forward to Thanksgiving this week.  Although I seem to be hearing more about Christmas than Thanksgiving.  I am trying to ignore that and enjoy this last week before the real holiday craziness begins.  I thoroughly enjoy Thanksgiving . . . no huge build up, no shopping necessary (other than food), and I am surrounded by the people I love.
I also get the whole week off from work!!!!
I am thankful for so many things.  I think we all need to remember what we are thankful for all of the time . . . not just when there is a holiday to remind us or when things are going good.
The recent turmoil in our country has made me thankful for the way I was raised . . . I was raised to care and be compassionate - not to hate.  I was raised to be optimistic and look for the good in people and in situations.  I was raised to believe in a loving God and I have a deep faith that gets me through when things get difficult.  I was raised to be joyful . . . and no matter what life throws at me . . .
I can always find my way back to that.
I am thankful for the people in my life.  My family of course . . . near and far . . . still here and some gone . . . those related by blood as well as those that are family because they came into my life and belonged there.  I am reminded daily of the importance of family!  Family is obvious - right? . . . but what about the lady who smiled at me when I was walking into the grocery store (a complete stranger) - such a genuine smile - that it changed my day.  I work with a group of people that make going to work a pleasure . . . my friends (old and new) warm my heart with their thoughts and prayers and laughter and tears.
I am more than thankful for my husband.  I look at him and know that he loves me and will always love me - not matter what happens between us -  he will always be there for me.  My children and their families are my biggest blessings!  I love when we are all together . . . and I love that when we are - the house is more full than it used to be and when they leave there is a happy mess made by children having fun.  I am thankful for children.  My grandchildren are amazing creatures that make me see the world . . . not necessarily in a new way, but in a way that adults tend to forget.  I am thankful for their magic . . . and that they share that magic with me.
I am thankful for this life . . . with all it's ups and downs and twists and turns.  It has taught me to be strong, and kind, and to choose happiness every day.  It has taught me who I want to be . . . and who I don't want to be.  It has taught me to never give up.  It has taught me the power of prayer and the importance of forgiveness.  Life has taught me to be thankful!

JOY . . .

A little magic can take you a long way.

Thank goodness for this girl and her magic!
She makes us smile and laugh and reminds us that life is really very simple . . .
if you just look for the joy!

ghosts stories and flowers . . .

Yes, I actually bought this book to read on the way home from the coast.
Maybe I bought it for the same reason I like Halloween and cemeteries . . . whatever reason that is.
I love Monterey's history.  As California's first capital and one of it's oldest settlements, there can't help but be a few ghost stories - (more than a few actually).  I can't say I believe in ghosts, but ghost stories are always fun . . . and the Monterey area definitely is a perfect setting for such stories.  I may have been a little more aware visiting the Point Pinos Lighthouse had I known it was said to be the home of a ghost.
I survived my first day back to work . . . getting up at 5:00 and a day full of meetings.
As much as I enjoy a break during the summer . . . I am excited about getting back to work.  I may not feel the same way by the end of the week, but I should be so busy the week will be over before I know it.  Besides . . . only 99 days until Thanksgiving Break!

birthday card journal . . .

Every year I take my birthday cards and make a simple little journal out of them.
It is a fun way to keep the cards and enjoy them again . . .
and a fun way to use washi tape.

 I used Charlotte's handwriting for the cover . . .
A sentimental card from my aunt and uncle.
Love you Hess and Al . . . I miss you very much!
 . . . and funny cards from friends . . .

. . . and a birthday warning????
