getting ready for October

So I attended a "paint night" back in June.  Jennifer picked the painting that we would do and picked this one because she knows I like skeletons.  I had a blast . . . but didn't honestly know what I was going to do with a purple skeleton painting.  I figured I would maybe use it as a Halloween decoration.  So I decided to do this to it . . . I still can't say I like my painting - but I like it a lot better this way.  One of the things I like most about decorating for Halloween - is that anything goes.  It doesn't have to be perfect or elegant . . . or even make sense.  I think the color of the flowers really make this much more fun . . . and perfect for next month!  I can't wait to start decorating for October!

Paint Night

Jennifer and I were sitting at my table one night . . . and she informed me that she had just signed us up for a paint night.  When she showed me the painting that we would be doing I understood why she decided we needed to go.  This is a busy time of year for me with the school year ending and getting ready for next year.  Also - once school is out we work four 10 hour days, which usually turn into 11 or 12 hour days for me . . . so by the time this night came around I was exhausted and the idea of going someplace at the end of a long work day seemed like more than I wanted to do . . . but how could I pass up painting?  Of course - I ended up having a great time and I am so glad that I went.
This paint night was by no means instructional . . . in fact we had to hold our hands on our canvases and vow to not say things like,  "I messed up." . . . or "Mine is awful."
We were there to have fun and relax . . . and paint.  I love to paint - so of course I was going to have fun!  As much as I love skeletons . . . I am really not so sure what I am going to do with this painting, but I do have some ideas to turn it into something fun to hang up on Halloween.
A couple hours of painting . . . and a couple of Corona's with salt and lime . . . and the thoughts and any stress that I had from that 10 hour work day were gone.
Now Jennifer wants to sign us up for another paint night.

purple . . .

Oh, how my little girls love purple lipstick!

but purple seems to have a soul -

 It's a Girl!
 I have been celebrating . . . every day!
. . . celebrating the change of seasons, a special 8 year old's birthday, the right to vote, and a new granddaughter due in March.
I have also been quiet . . . or rather taking time to be quiet - to focus on what I am grateful for.

I just have to post something . . . .

"Walking is man's best medicine."

It has been a busy week with this being the first week of school.  I keep thinking I will post something, but just haven't gotten to it.  So today I just have to post something . . . mostly pictures from when I am walking, but I couldn't leave out this great new skeleton hand I found at Michael's.
I had a fantastic week . . . it is great having all the kids back.   I love this time of year!
I will truly appreciate my weekend though!
HAPPY FRIDAY!

Asilomar Beach . . .

always taking pictures . . .

I think I mentioned that I like to take pictures when we are out wandering.
So many fun things wherever you go . . .

I couldn't help but think of the bookstore in "The Never Ending Story" when I walked past this store.  We would have gone in, but it wasn't open yet and we didn't walk back the same way.  Next time I get to Monterey . . . I need to visit this store.

PEACE ~ LOVE ~ BEER
I am with Richard (aka - Steve) . . . so of course we have to visit a local brewery.
Alvarado Street Brewery . . . their beer was great!

This one was called "The Best Part of Waking Up" . . .
. . . my kind of beer - so dark you can't read what is on the glass.
It was one of the best stout's that I have tasted.
